Greening Restoration and Stewardship

Common Grounds restoration and stewardship program has evolved from the relatively simple concept of planting trees in parks, to embrace more holistic concepts that address community health, quality of life and civic engagement. Working in the Toronto and Vancouver regions, our hands-on projects promote environmental stewardship as a catalyst for community building and provide opportunities for communities to take steps to address global-scale issues, such as climate change, at the local level.

Working strategically with municipal governments, universities, conservation authorities, crown corporations and other land owners, we develop long-term stewardship strategies that engage diverse community members and organizations, including social service agencies, faith groups, youth organizations and others.

Activities include:

  • planting native trees, shrubs, plants and flowers
  • removing invasive species
  • maintenance and monitoring
  • educational walks and talks
  • development and educational interpretive signage
  • onsite training and skills development

Do you want to get involved? You can:

  • Provide your skills as a stewardship leader, naturalist, artist, photographer, educator.
  • Help plan, prepare and care for community wildflower gardens
  • Pitch in to restore native plant habitat in your community.
  • Learn more about native plants, restoration and ecological values… and pass it on!
