‘Releasing the Spirit’ Community Greening Project
A native plant garden will be part of the revitalization of a 12-unit residential complex, providing a soothing place to rest, reflect, meet and socialize. With the guidance of elders, this project will incorporate traditional teachings into gardening activities, promoting residents’ sense of independence and self-esteem.

Food Cycles, Toronto, Ontario
Vermicompost, Greenhouse and Cover Crop Pilot Project
This project will create a greenhouse to grow vegetables and to hold vermicomposting bins. It will generate jobs, provide a training and demonstration site for community members, and divert waste — convert it into vibrant, high quality soil and compost for community use.

Lemoine Point Native Plant Nursery
This project will add a hoop greenhouse and sheltered work area to the existing Native Plant Nursery, providing a year-round controlled environment to germinate seeds, nurture tender plants, protect seedlings from animal damage, reduce the possibility of diseases and provide additional storage for planting supplies.

Imagine Bloomfield, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Connecting the Greens: Building Capacity in Halifax’s North End Community Gardens
This project will link five unique community gardens in Halifax’s North End. Each garden will benefit from added capacity, according to their needs, ranging from compost bins to a tool library, native trees and plants, a garden shed, a rain-water collection system and a community bulletin board.

Castlegar Community Garden Project
This user-friendly, inclusive and cost-free garden provides community members with an introduction to gardening, and highlights the importance and benefits of eating locally. More raised beds will provide extra food to the community, teach the importance of local food and offer a mentoring program.

Lower Trent Conservation, Trenton, Ontario
Habitat Restoration and Trail Improvements
This project will restore globally rare oak savannah habitat by reintroducing its defining vegetation to one of the few surviving oak savannah fragments in southern Ontario. The restoration is a necessary first step to the reintroduction of the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly.

Woodland Habitat and Trail Restoration
This project will facilitate public access the woodland site while conserving its myriad natural features. A system of boardwalks will be installed to satisfy the educational, recreational and health needs of the community while maintaining habitat integrity.

This project will increase biodiversity and revitalize under-used greenspace in Beleoil. It will become a unique demonstration site which will permit the protection, restoration and revitalization of natural spaces.

This project will provide an excellent opportunity to facilitate public access to the Estuary. Once completed, the trails will showcase the spectacular beaches, coastal cliffs and forests found on this site.

Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance / Alliance du Basin Versant Petitcodiac, Moncton, New Brunswick
Breau Creek Waterfront Project
This project will create a new municipal park, which will become the largest municipal green space in the village. By constructing new trails and enhancing old ones, adding a gazebo, benches and birdhouses, the Petitcodiac Watershed Alliance will help reconnect the community with this valuable waterfront site.

This community garden addresses the health needs of immigrants and refugees while building community ties, and celebrating Latin American culture.

‘Build, Enhance and Plant’ Conservation Education Kiosk Project
A new tipi kiosk will be built as an educational tool to raise awareness about the foothills grasslands habitat, and the impact of invasive and non-native species.

Restoring Native Vegetation
This project will complete an element the community plan to restore habitat, and enhance biodiversity and connectivity to the valley. It will encourage people to develop a stewardship ethic as the group continues this work for the next generation of people and wildlife.

This project will see the revitalization of existing gardens and the establishment of two new gardens in Regent Park, making the benefits of community gardening available to even more families in this high-needs neighbourhood.

This project get local students involved in water quality monitoring and outdoor environmental education stations to reduce soil erosion in this urban watershed.

Landowner Restoration and Enhancement Kit
This project will provide Landowner Restoration Kits to citizens, students and other community members, equipping them with the tools and information they need to contribute to long-term ecosystem health in the watershed.

Friends of the Rouge Watershed, Scarborough, Ontario
Reesor Wetland Restoration Once restored, the Reesor Wetland will purify more than 30 million litres of water per year, which will reduce flooding and erosion. Volunteers will be trained to participate in native tree, shrub and wildflower plantings and will create ponds, nesting islands, bird boxes and log perches.

This rehabilitation project will involve community volunteers in hands-on planting events, helping to increase biodiversity and bank stability in the Nose Creek Watershed.

Langley Bog Stewardship
As a first step towards restoration and protection of this ecological gem, this project will document and raise awareness of soil conditions, hydrology, water chemistry, plant communities, invasive species, wildlife and fisheries in the Langley Bog.

Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Moopher’s Amazing Journey to the Sea: Watershed Education Board Game Promotion
Through this innovative project, the Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin will promote and widely distribute an educational board game to teach children and adults about their place in the watershed, the range of habitats in the River Basin, and how human actions will influence ecosystem health.

Uni-Vert Region Matane, Matane, Québec
Interventions 2008, à notre falaise
This project will involve the community in erosion control activities to help stabilize a sensitive cliff embankment. Volunteers will participate in willow staking, native tree plantings, bank protection and educational activities.

The Toyota Evergreen Learning Grounds Program has awarded a total of $220,000 to 129 schools and daycares across Canada through the generous support of Toyota Canada Inc. and its dealerships, BMO Financial Group, the RBC Foundation, Capital One, Walmart Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, the Lyle S. Hallman Foundation, Green Street and an anonymous foundation. Schools were able to apply for up to $2,000 and daycares up to $1,000 to create vibrant, natural learning environments and increase shade on their school grounds.
